Day 37: Lake Michigan Views

Day 37: Gladstone, MI to Naubinway, MI

Today’s mileage: 96 miles
Total mileage: 2,472 miles

Waking to the sounds of seagulls scavenging our leftover pizza from the previous evening, the team gathered our things and headed out of Gladstone. With the towns being further apart in the Upper Peninsula, we tacked on an additional 15 miles to our morning ride prior to stopping in Manistique for an early lunch.

Since yesterday, the terrain finally changed to reveal the upper portion of Lake Michigan giving our rides a pleasant breeze along the beaches. After hitting our initial endpoint, with the beautiful conditions, we decided to push an additional 25 miles to Naubinaway where we stopped for further snacking and coffee.

Seven miles further, we were treated to our waterfront campground on Lake Michigan. We all took a brisk but refreshing swim in the lake while Tusa braved her way to Hog Island a bit of a ways out. After drying off, Tusa, Dave and Alex put on their full-body mosquito suits (Tom and Erin aren’t afraid of little bugs). Now only 40 miles from St. Ignace, we are all excited for our crossing to the lower peninsula tomorrow.
